Albertina Location: How to Get There by Subway and Bus

Street parking in the city centre is very limited, so use a public garage. Good options for both venues are Kärntnerringgarage (Mahlerstraße 6–8), Kärntnerstraße Tiefgarage (Kärntner Straße 51) and Parkgarage Opernringhof; Karlsplatz Garage is closest to Albertina Modern. For GPS, enter Albertinaplatz 1, 1010 Vienna for the main museum or Karlsplatz 5, 1010 Vienna for Albertina Modern. Reduced-rate Kärntnerringgarage vouchers are sometimes available at the Albertina ticket desk.

Karlsplatz/Oper (U1, U2, U4) is the best station for both venues: the main Albertina is a short walk past the State Opera, and Albertina Modern is a short walk across Karlsplatz. For the main museum, you can also take U3 to Stephansplatz and stroll down Kärntner Straße.

City bus 2A stops at Albertina, right by the main museum. For Albertina Modern, take 59A or 3A to Kärntner Ring, or 4A to Karlsplatz. If you're already in the centre, the 2A works for both: Albertina Modern is about a 10-minute walk from the Albertina stop.

By tram or local train, head for Kärntner Ring/Oper, served by lines 1, 2, D, 62 and 71 and the Badner Bahn. From there, the main Albertina is a short walk past the State Opera and Albertina Modern is about 5 minutes away. Arriving by S-Bahn or ÖBB train, change to the U-Bahn at Wien Hauptbahnhof (U1 to Karlsplatz) or Wien Mitte (U4 to Karlsplatz), as there's no mainline station at the museums. Note: rail services between Wien Mitte and Rennweg are suspended until 31 October 2027 for engineering works.

The Ringstraße cycle path leads straight to both venues. At the main Albertina, bike racks are at street level on Albertinaplatz, near the foot of the bastion. At Albertina Modern, use the racks in front of the Künstlerhaus or in nearby Resselpark.

The two museums are about a 10-minute walk apart. From the Albertina, head down from the bastion to street level, pass the State Opera, cross the Ringstraße and continue to Karlsplatz, where Albertina Modern occupies the Künstlerhaus beside the Musikverein. Reverse the route if you're starting at the Modern.
