Belvedere Museum Vienna Location: How to Get There by Subway and Bus

Driving in Vienna is doable if you know where to go. The Belvedere has no car park of its own, so use a nearby public garage such as the Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere garage or the QBC Parkgarage at Quartier Belvedere. Avoid street parking where possible: Vienna's short-stay zones ("Kurzparkzonen") are strictly enforced and can be confusing for visitors.

Coming from further afield? Take the U1 (red line) to Südtiroler Platz-Hauptbahnhof. From there it's about a 15-minute walk to the Upper Belvedere through the modern Quartier Belvedere district, a striking contrast to the Baroque palace ahead.

The tram is the most scenic and direct route. For the Upper Belvedere (home of The Kiss), take Tram D to "Schloss Belvedere", which drops you right by the entrance. For the Lower Belvedere and its temporary exhibitions, take Tram 71 to "Unteres Belvedere." Both lines run along part of the Ringstraße, giving you a mini sightseeing tour on the way.

Arriving by train? Quartier Belvedere station is served by S-Bahn lines S1, S2, S3 and S4, about a 7-minute walk from the Upper Belvedere. Note that S-Bahn works between Wien Mitte and Rennweg (until 31 October 2027) may affect some services. From Vienna's main station, Wien Hauptbahnhof, walk about 15 minutes or take Tram D to save your legs for the galleries.

Vienna is very bike-friendly. Follow the Ringstraße cycle paths to Schwarzenbergplatz, then head up Prinz-Eugen-Straße. Public bike racks are right by the museum, and a WienMobil Rad bike-share station nearby makes it easy to drop off your ride and head straight for the art.

On a nice day, walk from St. Stephen's Cathedral (Stephansplatz) to the Belvedere in about 25–30 minutes. Head for Schwarzenbergplatz, easy to spot thanks to its huge fountain and the Soviet War Memorial. From there, walk up Prinz-Eugen-Straße on the right to the Upper Belvedere, or follow Rennweg on the left to the Lower Belvedere.
